In OCaml 5.5, this manifested through multiple pull requests: #14244 enables runtime library discovery relative to binary locations, #14243 implements configuration-relative path interpretation, #13828 enhances reproducible .cmt file generation, and #14245 facilitates concurrent runtime configurations through filename adaptation. Collectively, these changes enable self-contained OCaml distributions without absolute path dependencies. While this may appear mundane, it represents a crucial capability for contemporary packaging workflows. Relocatable compilers enable downloadable binary distributions supporting rapid opam environment duplication, layered Docker images, and cross-compilation scenarios requiring specialized toolchain placement. End users will experience significantly reduced toolchain initialization periods.
